Recipe of the Week: Burger & Beet Pucks

a truly Canadian Dog Treat

2 cups ground beef
2 tablespoon parsley -- freshly chopped
1 egg1 cup buckwheat flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
¼ cup brewer's yeast
1 tablespoons cod liver oil
1 cup grated raw beets
½ cup water (more if needed, add slowly)

Sauté ground beef without adding any extra oil or fats. Combine cooked ground beef, parsley, and beets mix well. Beat the eggs and water in a bowl and pour over turkey mixture. Add the flour, yeast, and oil. Stir until thoroughly mixed and all ingredients are coated. Knead dough on a floured surface. When all flour is incorporated, roll out into ¼ inch thick sheets and use 1 inch round cookie cutters to create ‘burgers’. Arrange on an ungreased cookie sheet, cook in a 350-degree oven for about 20 minutes, until brown and firm. Remove from oven, cut the loaf into ¼ to ½ thick slices and arrange on an ungreased cookie sheet – then cook again for 20 minutes in 350 oven. Baking until crisp, they will last longer, store in airtight container. Note: use size-appropriate cookie cutters – bigger for larger dogs. Pugs only need 1 or 2 of the 1 inch size burgers per day!
